Waterproofing a Sunroom in Locust Hill

We're working on a house in Locust Hill on the Rappahannock River and moisture seems to be the enemy of the client. These are long time, loyal clients.

As we already knew, not a bit of protection against the elements under the vinyl existed (and vinyl is designed to be installed over just such house systems). We've taped the seams between the wood elements, added a drip edge and drip cap above the doors, taped that using a different house tape to the first layer of house tape, then covered the whole mess with Tyvec. Once the hardi goes on and is painted and caulked, they're going to have 4 layers of moisture barrier!

We also did some interior renovation on the sunroom/studio with said water damage.

We refinished the floors and installed custom shelving.

North Church Hill 1913 House Interior Restoration

This house was a disaster when we first went in to bid it. 25% of the second floor had fallen victim to fire damage from long ago; including the ceiling and the attic. We are moving several walls, opening up the kitchen, and re-purposing the rooms and the space.

We are installing new framing for what will become the Master Suite. 

In the attic here, we are preparing to add a brand new set of pull down stairs to give attic access,

Where Chris is framing right now use to be a small hallway closet that led to the crawl space and behind him was also a closet/storage. That space behind him is being converted into a bathroom that will connect to the Master Suite.

Right now, Chris is framing to install a pocket door that will really turn it into a Master Suite, rather than simply a Master Bedroom.

This was a bathroom that will be restored.

This area will be an office. One of the reasons that we work on these older house is because that brick construction is s neat.

The kitchen floor was completely rotten and had extensive termite damage around the door frame. We cut out the damage, reframed the doorway,and the kitchen floor. The area to the right will be a laundry/mechanical room.

Framing Our New Shop

With the concrete floor poured, work continues on the new shop as we frame the space from which we will continue to expand RVBA.

We are partitioning part of the shop off into an upper level office.

White House of the Confederacy Porch is almost complete

One of the difficulties of using reclaimed lumber is finding quality pieces that have no knots. After delays due to rain, snow, and tracking down quality lumber... we are almost complete.

We wrapped the deck around the columns.

When we first started the project, we noticed that the old decking was bowing in the middle. It was revealed that the framing was too far apart to support the decking like it should be. We added 2x6 joists to keep the deck from warping.
